The Urban Sustainability R&D Congress was held at Matrix Building, Biopolis, Singapore,
on 27-28 June 2011. More than 900 participants from research institutes,
government agencies and industry attended the 2-day event.
The theme of the inaugural Urban Sustainability R&D Congress is "Collaborate, Innovate, Integrate".
This Congress provides a new national platform for government agencies, research institutes and
private sector companies to continue this story of collaboration, innovation and integration.
It is where people can come together to build on existing urban solutions, develop future
capabilities, create economic opportunities, tackle Singapore's resource constraint, and
address sustainable development challenges.
The programme on Day 1 (Monday 27 June 2011) started with the opening speech by guest-of-honour
Minister of State for National Development Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin,
followed by the R&D award, and the keynote plenary session.
In the afternoon, representatives from government agencies presented the national
challenges and responses, as well as showcases of living laboratories.
There were 23 exhibition booths from research institutes, government agencies and industry outside
the theatrettes.
The programme on Day 2 (Tuesday 28 June 2011) was organised in 5 concurrent tracks, namely,
Sustainable Urban Living,
Urban Mobility, Green Building, Urban Ecology, and Food. More than 50 experts presented on
the R&D challenges, funding opportunities, collaborative projects, etc.
The Urban Mobility Track consists of four sessions, including three R&D challenges:
