International Seminar
Green Transport for Growing Cities
- Synthesis of China, Singapore and Global Best Practices
2 & 3 September 2009 | Tsinghua University, Beijing, China

Transport continues to be one of the biggest challenges of major cities around the world, especially for rapidly growing cities in Asia. With half the world's population or 3 billon people now living in cities and growing environmental and energy concerns, urgent solutions to urban transport problems are needed. They are of utmost priority for growing China cities in particular, due to the unprecedented rate of urbanisation and motorisation.

Worldwide and in China, green transport is increasing being promoted as a strategic measure to transform congested and polluted cities into an eco-friendly environment that is liveable and sustainable.

The Institute of Transportation Engineering, Tsinghua University, China and LTA Academy, Singapore (part of Singapore Land Transport Authority) are pleased to jointly organise the International Seminar on Green Transport for Growing Cities with the theme of "Synthesis of China, Singapore and Global Best Practices". This unique international seminar is aimed to share insights, latest initiatives and best practices to promote green transport; and stimulate discussions on policy and strategic issues and innovative solutions on urban transport.

We are delighted to have world eminent experts, senior government officials and leading transport professionals from China, Singapore and other countries to grace the seminar opening and give keynote and plenary presentations. They include:

The seminar provided a useful platform for the delegates to tap and exchange knowledge and experience with leading experts and practitioners from China, Singapore and global transport community; and an excellent opportunity for networking.

The various plenary forums, panel discussions, the policy dialogue on the way forward to a green urban transport system; and the site visit to China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City were inspiring and rewarding to all participants.

Kindly refer to the official programme for details of the seminar.
