Today, the world is thinking in eco-friendly terms, and ‘green’ initiatives follow suit. In this issue of JOURNEYS, we are transported around the world – in the greenest possible way, our armchairs – to learn of green transport development.

First, Hwang Kee Yeon & Park Jin Young (of the Korea Transport Institute) share Korea’s efforts to green the country’s transportation system. Michael Replogle and Michael Kodransky (of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, USA) then give a stimulating overview of how urban transport policy makers around the world are putting people-centric schemes forward. This is followed by a discussion of successful measures that China has adopted to make its urban transport eco-friendly, by Jiang Yulin and Li Zhenyu (of the China Academy of Transportation Sciences).

Finally, we look at Singapore's Geographic Information System, which uses digital maps to improve land transport planning and public safety. Michael Quah and Dickson Yeo (of the National University of Singapore’s Energy Studies Institute) then discuss current research and test-bedding of vehicle electrification. The final article shares the findings of Singapore’s regular Household Interview Surveys, which provides valuable insights into a decade of changing travel behaviours in Singapore.
